  • Zero100’s latest research report, Rewired 2030, reveals a substantial gap between strategy and execution on talent, digitization, and decarbonization in supply chains, according to data collected from over 1,000 supply chain practitioners and 400+ public data sources.
  • The full report is a comprehensive guide on closing this gap for supply chain leaders that combines data-driven insights, original frameworks, and case studies.

21 September 2023, London, UK: Zero100’s latest research report, Rewired 2030, highlights a gap in supply chain leaders’ progress on digitization, talent, and decarbonization goals.

Data published in the report quantifies this gap while sharing practices of the leaders who are out front.

Talent development and recruitment across supply chain is the number one priority for Chief Supply Chain Officers [CSCOs] and Chief Operating Officers [COOs], with 48% discussing the retention of top talent at least once a week. Yet only 12% say they are ahead of competition on the talent needs of tomorrow. This emphasis on digital skills was supported by further findings showing the supply chain organizations succeeding in retaining and attracting top digital talent were also the most digitally advanced.

The report outlines a similar story for CSCOs and COOs on decarbonization. While 69% have a date-bound goal for decarbonization, only 16% say they have started executing on Scope 3. Significant findings also include the direct correlation between the perceived digital maturity of a business and its decarbonization efforts. Rewired 2030 shows organizations that rated their digital capability the highest – grading themselves as 100% digital organizations – have piloted and/or deployed decarbonization efforts at 1.3 times the rate of those without a digital roadmap.

Zero100 Advisory Board member, Javier Varela, Chief Operating Officer and Deputy CEO at Volvo Cars, commented on the findings, “Zero100's Rewired 2030 report emphasizes the vital role of talent in reshaping our supply chains and equips leaders with the levers they can use to bolster capabilities. After all, it’s only once you build the right culture, teams, and skills that companies like Volvo Cars can fully unleash the potential of AI and digitization.”

Zero100 member, Tamera Fenske, Chief Supply Chain Officer at Kimberly-Clark, added, "Rewired 2030 offers a revealing snapshot of the challenges faced by supply chain leaders today. As the world becomes more disruptive, it is apparent that resilience and agility are table stakes. Investment in digital technologies is necessary to stay ahead, but it is also critically important that investment in talent and upskilling is made at a significantly increased rate. This is a critical point in reshaping our industry, but it is evident that many companies have work to do in order to keep pace with the rapidly evolving landscape."

“At The Estée Lauder Companies, we've long recognized the pivotal role of digital skills and talent retention in our success. Rewired 2030 not only affirms those beliefs but provides a clear roadmap to action by offering a reality check on where our industry stands in terms of digitization, talent development, and decarbonization goals. The data-backed insights have brought to light areas that demand immediate attention. This report arrives at a critical moment, and we're poised to translate insights into tangible progress,” noted Zero100 member, Florent Guillet-Caillot, VP, Global Supply Chain Strategy at The Estée Lauder Companies Inc.

Zero100’s VP Research, Matt Davis, comments on the current state of digital transformation across supply chains and the impact of the report, saying, “AI is forcing – and enabling – end-to-end digitization at a faster rate than anyone in the supply chain world has ever seen. Three years of disruption and ongoing crisis have put CSCOs and COOs at the center of corporate strategy in efforts to build more resilient operations while powering growth. The challenge for the profession has not been about why it’s time to digitize but rather how to do it. We aimed to answer that ‘how’ with a data-first analysis of what’s happening across industries while highlighting emerging practices to help all organizations on this journey.”
